Unplanned deforestation is increasingly becoming a major problem in the world. Malaysia now faces shortfalls in timber production from its native forest. Since 1990, total log production showed a downward trend. It was further affected when annual allowable cut for native forest in Peninsular Malaysia was reduced in 2005.
